Uploading Your First Inspection Report

Your inspection report is the most detailed look at your home you will ever receive. HomeCommand turns that PDF into a fully organized, searchable home management platform — in minutes.

Before you start

HomeCommand works with standard PDF home inspection reports from any licensed inspector. There is no special format required — if your inspector gave you a PDF, it will work.

If your report is spread across multiple PDF files, you can upload them one at a time. Each will be processed and linked to the same home.

What requires Basic vs Pro

Uploading, processing, and analysing a single inspection report is available on the free Basic plan — including the home dashboard, health score, issues list, equipment tracking, and maintenance schedule. Pro unlocks multi-document analysis, the AI chat assistant, warranty insights, repair cost estimates, local service pro matching, and multiple properties. You can start a 14-day Pro trial with no credit card. See the full plan comparison →

Step-by-step: uploading your report

1. Go to the Documents section

After logging in, navigate to Documents in the left sidebar. This is your central hub for all documents linked to your home.

2. Click "Add Document"

Click the upload button or the "Add Document" option in the top right of the Documents page. A dialog will appear for you to select your file.

3. Select your PDF and choose a document type

Select your inspection report PDF from your computer. When prompted, choose "Inspection Report" as the document type. This tells HomeCommand how to interpret and extract the content.

4. Wait for processing

Processing typically takes a few minutes depending on the length and complexity of your report. You will see a progress indicator while HomeCommand works. You can leave the page — processing continues in the background, and you will be notified when it is complete.

5. Explore your dashboard

Once processing is complete, your dashboard will populate automatically. Your home's systems, issues, equipment, and photos will all be organized and ready to explore.

Tip: bigger reports mean richer dashboards

The more detail your inspection report contains, the more HomeCommand can extract. Long, thorough reports result in a more complete home dashboard with more issues, equipment records, and photos identified.

What HomeCommand extracts from your report

HomeCommand's AI reads every page of your inspection report. Here is what gets extracted:

  • Home systems — Roof, foundation, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and more, organized by component
  • Issues — Every problem or concern identified, classified by severity (Critical, High, Medium, Low) and category
  • Equipment — Appliances and systems found in the report, with model/serial numbers and estimated age when available
  • Photos — Images embedded in the report are extracted and linked to their corresponding issues
  • Source pages — Every issue is linked back to the exact page in your original PDF so you can verify the source

Adding more documents over time

Your inspection report is just the beginning. You can upload additional documents at any time:

  • Warranties and manuals for appliances and systems
  • Seller disclosures
  • Appraisal reports
  • Contractor invoices and repair receipts
  • Permits and renovation records

Each document you add enriches your home's knowledge base, making the AI assistant smarter and your home record more complete.
