Using the HomeCommand AI Assistant
The AI assistant knows your home. It has read every document you have uploaded and can answer questions about your specific systems, issues, warranties, and maintenance needs — in plain language, with sources attached.

What makes this AI different
Unlike a general AI chatbot, the HomeCommand assistant is grounded in your specific home documents. It does not give generic advice — it tells you what your inspector said, what your warranty covers, and what is outstanding in your specific situation.
Every answer is backed by your documents. When the AI references something, it shows you exactly where that information came from.
Things you can ask
"What are the most urgent issues in my home right now?"
"Tell me more about the HVAC system — what exactly did the inspector find?"
"What does my water heater warranty cover, and when does it expire?"
"What maintenance should I be doing this fall?"
"How serious is the issue with my roof flashing?"
"What is the typical cost to replace a furnace?"
"Which items from my inspection report are still unresolved?"
"What's the difference between the two plumbing issues listed?"
Source citations
When the AI references information from one of your documents, it attaches a source citation. Clicking the source opens the original document and jumps to the exact page where that information appears.
This means you are never just trusting the AI's interpretation — you can always verify any answer against your actual inspection report or warranty document.
How the conversation works
The AI maintains context throughout a conversation. You do not need to re-explain your situation with every message — just follow up naturally:
- "Tell me more about that roof issue"
- "How serious is that compared to the plumbing problem you mentioned?"
- "What would I need to tell a roofer when I call them?"
Start a new conversation when you want to shift to an entirely different topic, so the AI starts fresh without prior context influencing the answers.
What the AI can do beyond answering questions
In addition to answering questions, the AI assistant can help you take action:
- Explain repair scopes — Describe what a repair actually involves so you can have an informed conversation with a contractor
- Estimate costs — Provide ballpark cost ranges for common repairs based on national averages
- Prioritize issues — Help you decide what to address first given your budget and urgency
- Log maintenance records — With your confirmation, the AI can create maintenance entries directly in your dashboard
Tip: use it before calling a contractor
Before you call a contractor, ask the AI to explain the issue in detail. It can help you understand the scope of work, what questions to ask, and what a reasonable price range looks like — so you go into the conversation informed rather than relying entirely on the contractor's assessment.
Tips for better conversations
- Be specific. "What's wrong with my HVAC?" gets a better answer than "What should I fix?"
- Name the system. Reference the specific room, system, or component when you know it (e.g., "the master bath", "the main electrical panel").
- Ask follow-ups. If an answer is too brief or technical, just say "can you explain that more simply?" or "what does that mean in practice?"
- Upload more documents. The more documents you have uploaded, the more the AI knows. Uploading your warranty documents makes warranty questions much more accurate.
